LOCATION

Okatjuru Safaris is located in central Namibia, 150 km Northeast of Windhoek and 120Km North of the Hosea Kutako International Airport (less than two hours by road). The hunting area comprises 140,000 acres total, of which 40,000 is owned by Okatjuru Safaris. There are daily flights to Windhoek from Johannesburg International and from Frankfurt. Transfer fees to and from the airport are $250 each way per group.

Sable, Roan, Lechwe, and the cats are limited in numbers and can be hard to locate. Dik Dik are hunted in an area that requires travel. The quality and quantity of the other species is excellent. Animals wounded and lost are considered taken.

Trophy preparation (caping, cleaning of skull/horns, salting, dipping and packing) and delivery to Windhoek taxidermy is $300 per shipment. Alternatively, we can arrange for export of packed and dipped capes and horns, with shipping at the client's expense.

We also offer a Seven day package hunt including airport transfers and the following trophies:
Gemsbuck (Oryx), Cape Hartebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Warthog, Blesbuck, Springbuck and Steenbuck. The price of the package hunt is $5400 1x1 and $4950 2x1.

Special Group Discount: For Groups, we offer a discount on individual trophy fees of 10% @$15 000 aggregate trophy fees, and 20% @$25 000 aggregate. In addition, a special 2x1 daily rate of $250 applies to groups of 4 or more hunters.

Bird hunts are offered at a flat daily rate, with daily limits by species per hunter, see below.

ACCOMMODATION

Hunters are housed in comfortable en-suite guest quarters separate from the main house. Up to 8 people can be accommodated in 4 separate rooms each with private bath and toilet. The daily rates include daily laundry, a field breakfast and two home-cooked meals. Alcohol and tips are additional. The rates for trophy hunters are:

Non Hunter US$ 140/day

Casual bird hunting is included in these rates, for no additional charge. Volume bird hunting is subject to the normal bird hunting tariff.

Seasons vary by species with the best months being June - September. Francolin hunting is available in the early part of the season only, and Sand Grouse toward the end of the season.  Appropriate standard ammunition is available for 12 and 20 ga guns at the lodge for $8 per box. Hunters requiring specialty ammunition should advise us in advance.

HUNTING

Hunts are conducted on foot, once the hunt area has been reached by 4 wheel drive vehicle, or from a "Hochsitz" (high seat) near one of the many waterholes on the property. Special blinds are provided for bowhunting. The terrain is generally flat grasslands interspersed with thorn scrub. Shooting distances are 20 to 100 yards. Rifles are available if needed, but there is no problem bringing hunting rifles and shotguns through customs. Ammunition is subject to a limit of 80 rounds per caliber. The best months are May through October.

Bird hunting for Sand Grouse and Doves is done at waterholes. Guinea Fowl are driven to the guns by beaters and walked up. Francolin hunting is walk-up hunting. If any mounted birds are to be exported, please advise us as a permit is required in advance. Seasons as indicated below:

ACTIVITIES/SIGHT SEEING

Spouses and children are welcome, and family tours can be arranged during or after the hunt. Popular tours and activities include:

Game Drives to Etosha Reserve, where the Big 5 are found
Flyfishing Trips to the Okavango
Birdwatching Safaris, 10 or 14 days
Shopping Trips to Windhoek
Surf or Ocean Fishing

In summer months, swimming is offered in the pool. Horseback riding is available year round.

BOOKINGS

Contact us with questions or to make a reservation. A deposit of $1000 is requested to confirm a booking. Half the deposit is retained in the event of a cancellation up to three months before arrival. Thereafter, the deposit is not refundable. The balance owing is paid upon departure, by travelers check, cash, or major credit card.
